ABOUT THE IRON MALTESE CROSS: Often associated with The Crusades or Crusaders, this heraldic cross "pattée" (a cross that has arms which are narrow at the center & broader at the ends - French) was used by the Crusader order, the Teutonic Knights & later became associated with the German empire.
